During COGdesign’s community design
workshop with the Children’s Museum in
Easton
, participants toured notable architectural sites for
local context. The museum’s home was the town’s
original fire station, built in 1904.
Local historian John Kent regales tour participants with
details about the historic buildings in view: the
Oakes Ames Memorial Hall and the Oliver Ames Free Library.
Both buildings were designed by architect H.H. Richardson;
Frederick Law Olmsted designed the landscape for the Hall.
The library contains sculptures by Augustus St. Gaudens
and Stanford White.
The North Easton Railroad Station, designed by H.H.
Richardson, is now home to the Easton Historical Society.

Queset House, in the style of A.J. Downing, is privately
owned. A formal Italian garden, now in ruins, was
the setting for local theatricals and evokes an earlier
splendor.
This Fletcher Steele-designed garden was recently
restored.
