Fran Hintsa Memorial Garden, Newton

Designers Sarah Kish and Janice Reilly have completed a landscape design for Community Living Network’s newest affordable housing in Newton for low income elder adults.  The front garden, named in honor of a supporter, will be a destination for residents, provide outdoor experiences, and connect residents with the neighbors passing by.

A rambling Victorian house near Newton Center will become affordable housing for seniors.  Occupancy date is expected to be fall 2005.

Eric Hintsa, Fran Hintsa’s son, directs volunteers in the identification of choice and treasured perennials and shrubs from his mother’s garden.  The plants will be re-located to a new garden at the CLN housing site next door as soon as construction is completed.

Virginia Robinson, the CLN volunteer spearheading the landscape initiative, has been the liaison with COG’s designers.

A young umbrella pine will become part of the new Fran Hintsa Memorial Garden if determined volunteers ( Sarah Kish in yellow clogs) have their way.
